Juan Manuel de Prada is a writer. He has won the most prestigious awards in literary journalism, including the Mariano de Cavia and Julio Camba Prizes. As a writer, his powerful imagination and daring use of language took the literary world by storm with his first two works: Coños (Valdemar, 1995) and the short stories in El silencio del patinador (Valdemar, 1995, released in an expanded edition by Destino in 2010).
Noteworthy examples of his fictional output include his towering debut Las máscaras del héroe (Seix Barral, 1996 - Ojo Crítico Prize), La tempestad (Planeta, 2001 – Planeta Prize), which was translated into some twenty languages and made his name on the international stage, after The New Yorker singled him out as one of six European writers to watch, Las esquinas del aire (Planeta, 2000), Desgarrados y excéntricos (Seix Barral, 2001), La vida invisible (Espasa, 2003 - Primavera Prize and the National Fiction Prize), El séptimo velo (Seix Barral, 2007 – Biblioteca Breve Prize and the Castilla y León Critics’ Prize), Me hallará la muerte (Destino, 2012), Morir bajo tu cielo (Espasa, 2014) and El castillo de diamante (Espasa, 2015 - the Castilla y León Critics’ Prize).
His latest work is Mirlo blanco, cisne negro (Espasa, 2016), defined by the author himself as “a settling of scores with myself and the world of publishing.”
